Riding with Diann

South Beach to Chattanooga,
Cross the state of Tennessee;
St. Louis, Kansas City, north
Then west to Black Hills spree.

Terlingua, 1900 miles,
Then US-385
From Big Bend north to Deadwood –
Where Wild Bill did not survive.

Or Route 66, New Mexico,
Tucumcari for the night;
Then Rockies – Durango, Telluride –
And back ‘cross Great Divide.

In Sturgis we would rally, ‘though
We went more for the ride;
National 9 Gillette or Sundance
Bear Lodge, where we’d bide.

Each day a new adventure –
Devils Tower, Dime Horseshoe;
Prairie dogs, wide-eyed Wild Hogs
And buffalo to view.

Each journey home by different route,
More ‘Merica to see:
Sioux City, Council Bluffs and
Tearful stop at Wounded Knee.

One ride home would take us east
To US-129:
Tail of the Dragon, through Deals Gap,
300 curves, 11 miles.

With motorcycling memories, I’m blessed
More than many men;
None more precious to me, though, than
Riding with Diann.
